East Nashville-based folk artists Michael & Nell (Michael J August and Nell Levin) released their album Welcome Home on July 31, 2020. On the national August Folk Alliance DJ Chart, Welcome Home was the No. 5 album, their Election Year Rag was the No. 3 song, and Michael & Nell were the No. 7 artists. The title cut of their album Welcome Home was a finalist in the 2021 Songs for Social Change contest sponsored by RAWA (Renaissance Artists and Writers Association). They created the acclaimed multimedia Joe Hill Road Show and released their companion Joe Hill Roadshow CD in 2016. They have performed the Show live 29 times for colleges, unions and community groups and virtually 8 times with funding from Tennessee Arts Commission, Puffin Foundation, Metro Nashville Arts Commission, Humanities Tennessee and UNIFOR, Canada’s largest union.  They founded and performed with the “formidable” Shelby Bottom String Band from 2008 to 2015. The band’s East Nashville Rag album was released in 2012. Michael & Nell have played at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium and at many venues, including house concerts and benefits for environmental, community, labor and social justice organizations.
